Grassroots Efforts Wrap Up Across Brooklyn
As the petitioning window comes to a close for Democratic primary candidates in Brooklyn, contenders for the Kings County Civil Court are wrapping up weeks of grassroots outreach. Among them are Janice Chen and Janice Purvis, two well respected candidates who have spent the past month crisscrossing the borough and engaging with residents in every corner of Brooklyn.
Both Chen and Purvis are running for judicial seats on the Kings County Civil Court. While they are not opponents and are running for different seats, voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots for both of them in the upcoming June primary.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to connect directly with Brooklynites throughout this process,” said Chen. “Listening to people’s stories, hopes, and concerns has not only strengthened my resolve but reminded me why I chose to run in the first place — to serve this incredible borough of Brooklyn with fairness and compassion. I know how important it is for a candidate to listen and understand the voters who support them. I appreciate every person who has stopped to give me their time.”

Janice Purvis reflecting on her journey through Brooklyn, stated, “Traveling across the borough has been a powerful reminder of how deeply connected we all are. From Canarsie to Williamsburg, East New York to Park Slope and neighborhoods in between, I’ve felt the warmth and support of people, and I’m proud to be part of a movement that puts justice and community first.” Purvis added, “Many residents I talked to have never met a judicial candidate before. I’ve had insightful discussions and felt the crucial importance of active community engagement. I’m proud to be part of a movement.”
The petitioning period officially ends on Thursday, April 3, 2025. With strong community support and a commitment to fair, accessible justice, both Chen and Purvis say they are confident their names will be on the Democratic primary ballot this June.
