Brooklyn Playwright Caylie Filipa Premieres Powerful Double-Bill at Brooklyn Art Haus

Posted By Todd Betzold

This June, the Brooklyn theatre scene welcomes a bold new voice as local playwright Caylie Filipa premieres These Are the Rules, a two-play production set to debut at Brooklyn Art Haus. Presented by Superposition House, an emerging indie theatre collective, the double-bill marks the group’s first New York City production and promises a strong blend of drama and dark comedy.

A Double Dose of Grit and Wit

These Are the Rules features two original works written by Filipa, each offering a distinctive yet thematically linked exploration of domestic life, power, and emotional survival, according to a press release.

This World Is Mine is a visceral examination of trauma and personal agency. The play is raw and emotionally charges, unpacking the internal aftermath of survival. It asks, what does it take to reclaim one’s story?

On the flip side of things, Game Night, leans more into the dark comedy. It exposes the power dynamics that unfold in everyday social settings. What starts out as a seemingly casual gathering soon spirals into a sharp, uncomfortable look at connection, competition, and control.

Both of these plays showcase the signature style of Filipa: emotionally layered, unapologetically honest, and threaded with sharp humor that cuts through even the heaviest themes.

Introducing Superposition House

The production is the inaugural effort from Superposition House, a Brooklyn-based theatre collective founded by early-career artists Emilia Littin-Egaña, Abigail Rhyne, and Rohan Padmakumar. These founders wanted to champion new voices and produce theatre that is unfiltered, collaborative, and rooted in lived experience.

With These Are the Rules, Superposition House makes their commitment clear. They want to uplift stories that challenge, unsettle, and resonate — especially those stories that don’t always find a place in mainstream theatre.

Performance Dates and Venue

For this two-play production, it will take place at Brooklyn Art Haus, which is located at 24 Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn. The performances will take place on June 12, 14, and 15, 2025, with showtime starting at 7:30 PM.

The event is open to all, regardless of age, gender, race, or religion. If you are interested in going, tickets are available at Stellar Tickets.

A Spotlight on Local Talent

Caylie Filipa is a resident of Brooklyn and she is quickly making a name for herself as a playwright who brings emotional intelligence to the stage. These Are the Rules is not only her latest creative achievement, but it also highlights the thriving artistic ecosystem of Brooklyn, where experimental voices are increasingly finding space to shine.
