An Ongoing Creative Connection
Kota and Phearnone aren’t strangers to sharing the limelight. Previously, they wowed audiences together at TEDx Portland with their blend of violin and hip-hop. Phearnone has also contributed to Once In A Blue Moon, Kota’s collaboration project with Statik Selektah.
On working together, Phearnone shared, “It always feels special collaborating with an artist where there’s strong chemistry. Having created together both in studio and live—including Kota’s Once In A Blue Moon LP—I know these shows will be something unique.”
He continued, “Kota and I both grew up in New York. We’re independent musicians, lyricists, and entrepreneurs. What inspires me about Kota is how he’s redefined indie success—making meaningful music, building new revenue streams, and forming genuine fan connections. The more we partner, the more I see him excel in both art and business while staying authentic.”
Phearnone’s Versatile Path
Hailing from The Bronx and born Shayshahn MacPherson, Phearnone’s boundary-pushing career spans genres. As a trained violinist, his artistry covers everything from Classical and Jazz to Reggae, Hip Hop, House, R&B, and West African sounds.
Standout achievements include performing at Carnegie Hall at age 12, touring globally with Wu-Tang Clan’s The Final Chamber, and working with legends like Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, GZA, Big Daddy Kane, Roy Ayers, and Lettuce. He’s been recognized by The Washington Times and honored with an Emmy for his work on Vote.
Celebrating in Brooklyn
Kota the Friend shared his excitement: “Phearnone is rare—able to navigate different genres and always return to hip-hop at the core. It’s extra meaningful to close these dates with him.”
“We’ve made unforgettable memories, from our TEDx set to recording Once In A Blue Moon. Ending in Brooklyn, on my birthday, feels like the perfect culmination,” Kota noted. “When Phearnone plays, you feel every note. It’s powerful and deeply felt. Fans are in for something truly special.”
After 16 cities, the No Rap on Sunday Tour concludes with stops in Boston, D.C., Philly, and Brooklyn, promising an artistic finale steeped in independence and New York pride.
