Hon. Jacqueline D. Williams, currently serving as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in Kings County and a former longtime Family Court Judge, has formally announced her campaign for Kings County Supreme Court. This step begins a new phase in her 25-year legal and judicial career distinguished by dedication to fairness, public service, and the people of Brooklyn.
A Deep-Rooted Dedication to Brooklyn and Justice
Williams, born at March Air Force Base in California while her father was stationed in Vietnam, was brought up in Brooklyn surrounded by her Panamanian family and a strong community support system.
Her educational journey led her to Yale University for a bachelor’s in history, focusing on Caribbean and Latin American Affairs, and to UC Berkeley School of Law, where she contributed to the African American Law Journal as an editor.
Progressing from Civil Court to Supreme Court
Judge Williams began as a Principal and Senior Court Attorney to Hon. Bernadette Bayne, gaining crucial insight into court procedures during her early career.
She was then elected to the Civil Court in 2006, presiding over various criminal and civil matters.
She moved to Kings County Family Court in 2014,
managing cases involving juvenile delinquency and child protection. Judge Williams’ decisions reflected her belief in justice built on accountability and compassion.
Since 2015, she has been an Acting Supreme Court Justice, widely respected for her legal acumen, trial experience, and fair approach to challenging cases.
“Brooklyn is where my heart is, and this community is part of who I am,” said Williams. “Every ruling I make is rooted in a commitment to justice, fairness, and respect.”
Commitment to Community and Equal Opportunity
Judge Williams’s public service extends outside the courtroom. She has organized cultural and youth events at the courts, and regularly mentors students throughout Brooklyn.
As a member of the Lions Club, she has represented the group at United Nations events and remains active in her church, as well as serving as a Yale alumni interviewer.
“Justice goes beyond courtroom decisions — it’s about inspiring trust in our system and encouraging young people to become leaders,” Williams added.
Kicking off her General Election campaign, Judge Williams is committed to serving Brooklyn with fairness, empathy, and integrity, ensuring justice is both seen and experienced by those who rely on it.
