6 Interesting Date Ideas For the Modern Brooklynite

6 Date Ideas for the Modern Brooklynite

So you’ve made the call, gotten a yes, and settled on a date. Congrats! You’re almost done with the planning. Now you just need a location… but the ideas aren’t flowing like the wine you hope to be downing that day. No matter what (and who) you’re into, this list will give you the inspiration you need to create a memorable and fun date.

  1. Barcade (Williamsburg) BarcadeBKHappyHour_500

Yes, you read correctly and can safely and accurately assume that it stands for “bar and arcade” in one. Remember all those cool arcade games from your childhood like NBA Jam, Galaxian and Donkey Kong? This place is packed with them and will make you nostalgic. If you don’t know these games and have never played an arcade game, you’re probably not old enough to be in the building. Let your guard down with good craft beers, and set your inner gamer free at 25 cents/game. Not bad for a first date or even a casual one. If your date’s a gamer, you’ve just hit it out of the park. You’re welcome. http://barcadebrooklyn.com

  1. The Way Station (Prospect Heights)the way station

Get a little closer to that special someone with a little music… and drinks, of course. The venue hosts various musicians ranging from indie rock to samba to jazz. Even if the night didn’t quite start out right, good music will put everything back in its place and elevate the mood. With a $5 suggested donation and $4 draft beers and well drinks during happy hour (4-8pm DAILY), this is a no-brainer. Also, if you’re a little nerdy (we love nerds!), you’ll appreciate the Dr. Who references all over the joint. You might even catch the burlesque show! Whatever’s in store for you, you’re guaranteed to have a great night out. http://waystationbk.blogspot.com

  1. Brooklyn Bowl (Williamsburg)brooklyn bowl

Who doesn’t love bowling? Take your date here to knock down some pins and wolf down some amazing chicken wings. This spot boasts having the best fried chicken ever made. Not only is it a bowling alley, but it’s a lounge, bar and music venue (Questlove performed last week) all in one. What more could you possibly ask for? The night is yours. Live it up! www.brooklynbowl.com

  1. Galapagos Art Space (DUMBO)galapagos

Into Cabaret? Then look no further than this spot. Comic Bastard Keith hosts in between each amazing act, and keeps things running smoothly. This is not for the faint of heart. There’s a striptease, acrobatics and a woman eating fire. This would probably be best as a 2nd or 3rd date, after you’ve gotten to know the person a little. www.galapagosartspace.com

  1. Black Mountain Wine House (Gowanus)black mountain

Dimly lit and intimate, this place is beyond romantic. If you truly want to impress a woman, bring her here. With excellent wine and delicious food (the Mac and Cheese is to die for!), you’ll be sure to win her over. There’s even a fireplace. Sigh. It’s not in use right now, but when winter comes back around, it’ll give you an excuse to cozy up to your date. It’s best to go on a weeknight for a truly romantic experience, as it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. www.blackmountainwinehouse.com

  1. Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Crown Heights)botanic

If you’re a true sweetheart and want to enjoy the beauty in nature, this is a great idea for a simple date. You’ll explore all the exhibits in about 2 hours, giving you a chance to really get to know your date along the way. The orchids might even inspire some hand-holding and kisses. Revel in the breathtaking scenery for only $10/person. If you’re a student, that drops down to $5. Admission is free on Tuesdays, 10am-12pm on Saturdays, and winter weekends (November-February).
