Brooklyn Rappers Kota the Friend and Fivio Foreign Join Forces on Genre-Bending Single “Hello”

Posted By Todd Betzold

Brooklyn’s musical diversity takes center stage this week with the release of “Hello,” a boundary-pushing new single that brings together introspective indie rapper Kota the Friend and drill scene staple Fivio Foreign. Released today for New Music Friday, the track is now streaming on all major platforms and offers a fresh glimpse into Kota’s upcoming album No Rap on Sunday, set to drop in late June.

From Jazz to Drill — And Everything in Between

While their styles couldn’t be more different — Kota’s laid-back, jazz-infused flow versus Fivio’s high-energy drill cadence — the two Brooklyn artists find unexpected harmony in their shared roots. Kota hails from Clinton Hill, while Fivio reps Fort Greene and East Flatbush, and that borough bond shines through in a track that feels like both a conversation and a collaboration.

“It made sense,” Kota said in a press release. “We’re both from Brooklyn, and I think the contrast in our styles makes the song that much more interesting. I’m hoping Fivio gets out soon so he can get back on his grind and keep making music. Brooklyn needs that.”

King Kota Opens the Track With a Generational Twist

Adding to the track’s unexpected flavor is an opening verse from Kota’s 8-year-old son, who records under the name King Kota.

His playful and confident delivery adds a layer of generational energy that underscores the theme of bridging gaps — between styles, ages, and sounds.

A Preview of No Rap on Sunday

“Hello” is the third single from No Rap on Sunday, following “Michigan” featuring Big Sean and “Cozy Girls” with Liana Bank$.

The full album is already available exclusively on EVEN.biz, where Kota has embraced a fan-first distribution model aimed at fostering independence and artist-audience connection. The album will be released more broadly on streaming platforms in late June or early July.

Music Video Drops June 9

Fans won’t have to wait long for the visuals, as the official video for “Hello” premieres Monday, June 9, promising a raw and authentic visual pairing for the genre-spanning anthem.

As Brooklyn continues to evolve musically, “Hello” is a reminder that innovation often happens at the crossroads. Jazz and drill might seem worlds apart, but in the hands of two of the borough’s most authentic voices, they come together in a track that feels right at home.
