Brooklyn politics just got a little more interesting. As the race for Brooklyn Borough President heats up, a well-known Central Brooklyn lawmaker is throwing his support behind a candidate with deep neighborhood roots and a long track record of public service.
With less than a month to go before the Democratic primary, the endorsement could help shift the momentum and possibly the outcome.
A Trusted Ally Steps Forward
Assemblymember Brian Cunningham, who represents District 43 in Central Brooklyn, has officially endorsed Khari Edwards in the race for Brooklyn Borough President. Citing Edwards’ decades of public service and grassroots leadership, Cunningham praised his deep-rooted commitment to the borough and the communities that call it home.
“Khari Edwards has been a passionate and service-driven advocate for our borough for decades,” said Assemblymember Cunningham, according to the press release. “His dedication to improving the lives of Brooklynites is unmatched. Whether it’s improving access to quality healthcare, reducing violence in our communities, or ensuring our seniors can live with dignity, he’s always there to answer the call. I’m proud to endorse him as our next Borough President.”
Strong Policy Experience Highlighted
Cunningham, a Brooklyn native and active legislator in Albany, pointed to Edwards’ ability to translate local challenges into real solutions.
Edwards, a longtime public servant and former hospital executive, has built his campaign around equity, healthcare access, youth engagement, and housing stability.
Support Grows Ahead of June 24 Primary
With the Democratic Primary set for Tuesday, June 24, Edwards is racking up endorsements from across Brooklyn. In addition to Cunningham, his backers now include powerful labor union DC37 and Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman.
The growing coalition positions Edwards as a leading candidate in the race to succeed current Borough President Antonio Reynoso.
