Cyclones 6 Aberdeen 1
July 12 at Aberdeen
A three-run homer by Nick Sergakis was the big blow as the Cyclones beat Aberdeen 6–1 on Tuesday night.
Brooklyn took a first inning lead as Sergakis singled, stole second and scored on Peter Alonso’s two-out double.
Aberdeen evened it up in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Chris Clare walked and Alejandro Juvier singled. Jaylen Ferguson’s double to left scored Clare.
Juvier attempted to score, but a relay from Jay Jabs to Colby Woodmansee to Dan Rizzie cut down Juvier at the plate to keep the game tied.
Aberdeen starter Keegan Akin pitched a scoreless second, but left the game after just two innings on the mound. Parker Bridwell followed up with two shutout innings of his own before the Cyclones got to him in the fifth.
Bridwell retired the first two batters, but then hit Darryl Knight and gave up a single to Gene Cone. Sergakis then homered over the left field wall to give the Cyclones a 4–1 lead.
Cyclones starter Erik Manoah gave up one run on four hits in six innings of work while walking two and striking out two.
Brooklyn padded its lead in the eighth and, once again, it was Sergakis leading the charge. The second baseman started things with a single, and moved to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Alonso singled to put runners on the corners. Jacob Zanon’s double scored Sergakis and Blake Tiberi’s sacrifice fly scored Alonso to put Brooklyn up 6–1.
Sergakis finished three-for-five with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Raul Jacobson picked up the save, tossing three shutout innings and striking out six.
The 12–13 Cyclones look for the sweep of Aberdeen on Wednesday night.
UPS AND DOWNS
Brandon Brosher made an impact on the ball – and the front office – after his two home run performance on July 11. He was called up to the Columbia Fireflies, the Mets Single-A affiliate in the South Atlantic League.
