Take part in the Hanging Gardens of Brooklyn, a travelling art installation, on the grass lawn within Herbert Von King Park starting on June 8.

A public art installation by Bryce Peterson features a trellised canopy of edible and native plants, as well as a solar-powered lighting and audio system, according to a news release.

The artwork will officially open to the public on June 8 at its Grand Opening celebration, occurring from 3:00 to 6:00pm in Herbert Von King Park. There will be music by the Wheel and Friends, food by local restaurant Little Grenjai and an informal Q&A by the artist.

Peterson is a multidisciplinary artist and engineer whose work focuses on interweaving community building with collective stewardship of ecological systems.

The artist built the wooden structure and its accompanying systems at his studio in Bedford Stuyvesant and assembled the final installation onsite with a team of volunteers, the press release said.

Throughout the summer and fall until the end of October, the Hanging Gardens of Brooklyn will serve as a publicly accessible venue for the local community, hosting performances, workshops and wellness offerings. The organizers behind the project facilitate free programming in NYC parks by providing space, funding, and support for New Yorkers seeking to engage the public with its local community and environment.

During this year’s installation of the Hanging Gardens in Herbert Von King Park the project is piloting its new Curator in Residence Program, through which four local curators will be awarded one-month residencies and $1,000 to develop and present programming to the public.
