Join Afros and Audio on June 22nd – 23rd, 2019 at BKLYN Studios in Downtown, Brooklyn, NY to be part of the movement that will progress, expand, and elevate the work of Black and Brown Podcast Creators.
For two days, Afros and Audio seeks to bring together our community of podcast and content creators, industry experts, voice talent, audio equipment and software vendors, marketing and promotional professionals, fans of podcasts, and more.
The Afros and Audio Inaugural Festival will create space and opportunity to:
- Acknowledge and celebrate the collective contribution to the medium of podcasting
- Provide the latest industry news, technology and information for podcast sustainability and success
- Build a foundation of long-term strategy for collaboration and community patronage and support
2018 Podcast stats:
- Apple at WWDC confirmed over 550,000 active podcasts. (June, 2018)
- FastCompany reported over 18.5 million episodes. (April, 2018)
- Variety reported that Apple podcasts include content in more than 100 languages. (February, 2018)
As of 2019, less than 5% of active podcasts by and for people of the African Diaspora exist in the market. If this matters to you, then consider that percentage a Call to Action for creating and supporting podcasts developed by Black and Brown creators.
During the “Golden Age of Radio”, when audio entertainment was king, Black people were not invited or welcomed to the party. Afros and Audio was born out of a desire to amplify the voices and visibility of Black and Afro-Latinx podcast creators, and create opportunities for more original podcasts in 2019 and beyond. The festival and year- round efforts will ensure that the voices of Black and Afro-Latinx people of all sexual and gender identities, nationalities, social and economic backgrounds, politics and faiths are given an opportunity to leave a legacy in the growing industry of podcasting.
This two day event promises to be a fun and inspiring weekend with practical advice for A-Z podcast creation for both newly established and veteran podcasts. Information sharing through workshops and breakout sessions that focus on the entrepreneurial spirit and business of podcasting; topics including, content creation, production, launching, monetization, marketing, etc. In addition, our audience will enjoy, relevant live recordings, forwarding discussions and be inspired by our guest speakers and commemorative keynote address.
