Meet Turquoise Haskin Who Is Running To Become a Civil Court Judge in Brooklyn

Turquoise Haskin, Esq. is an attorney who serves Brooklyn in New York’s Unified Court system. She is currently running for Civil Court Judge in Kings County.  Haskin currently serves us as Principal Law Clerk to a Kings County Supreme Court Justice in the Civil Term. Her commitment to the law, justice and the people of Brooklyn extends into her role as a Special Referee of Uncontested Matrimonial matters, whereby she evaluates petitions, and issues judgments of divorce in our courts.

Over her 14-year tenure in the New York Unified Court system, Turquoise has worked on the resolution and disposition of thousands of cases affecting every-day New Yorkers. She also gained a great wealth of legal experience at key governmental agencies and the private sector as an attorney with a litigation background.

At the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the largest municipal developer of affordable housing in the United States, Turquoise worked in the Tax Incentive Unit. While there, she determined real estate developers’ eligibility for tax abatement on their building projects. She also gained invaluable experience at the Office of the New York State Attorney General, auditing the financial filings of charities. Her litigation experience includes her work as the sole full-time associate at a firm that specialized in medical malpractice defense and premises liability matters.

Turquoise earned her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business, and a Juris Doctor degree from the Emory University School of Law. Her passion for her community is best illustrated through her volunteer efforts at Warrant Forgiveness programs and Election Protection hotlines. She has also spearheaded several virtual legal clinics, presided as a Moot Court Judge for NYU law student oral arguments, and is a member of the Canarsie Lions.

Turquoise is highly regarded among her peers, and has earned a reputation for her integrity, patience, temperament and effectiveness in identifying issues and resolving disputes between diverse parties. Among her most esteemed accomplishments is her work as a past member of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association Board of Directors and Editor-in-Chief of its newsletter.

Turquoise attributes her drive and motivation to give back to her late father, a Brooklyn Emergency Room (ER) physician/NYPD Police Surgeon; her mother, who managed an office in Crown Heights; and her identical twin sister and younger sister, who are podiatrists.
