Tapas-Style Sandwich Spot ‘Sunday Routine’ to Open on Nostrand Avenue

CROWN HEIGHTS — A new lunch and dinner spot will open by the end of the year on Nostrand Avenue, bringing “well-crafted cocktails” and tapas-style sandwiches to the avenue, its owner said.

The restaurant, Sunday Routine, is a first for co-owner Becca Brennan, a former lawyer who is opening the eatery with a friend and current manager at the popular Gowanus bar Threes Brewing.

Brennan said she wanted to open the 55-seat eatery at 637 Nostrand Ave. partly to provide a midday lunch spot with really good drinks.

“You can’t get a cocktail at 3 o’clock in the neighborhood,” she said.

The pair hopes to serve savory, small-size sandwiches, small plates and snacks that will be good for pairing and sharing, Brennan said; two sandwiches would likely be enough for a meal for one person, she said.

A sample menu mixes more traditional sandwiches — like pulled pork, pastrami and roast beef — with atypical flavors like the “Squash, anyone?” sandwich: pulled sweet potato, coleslaw, barbecue aioli and pickles.
