MyHome Completes Co-Op Renovation In Pre-War Building

MyHome, the Manhattan-based renovation company, recently completed a kitchen and bath renovation at 170 West End Avenue in Manhattan. The remodeling team was tasked with completely transforming an outdated kitchen and bath in a pre-war building to have a lighter, brighter appeal.

This West End Avenue project was designed by senior MyHome Remodeling Consultant, Ben Pitt. Pitt and his team were tasked with completely transforming an outdated kitchen and bath in a pre-war building.

This New York City remodel was particularly challenging as it required the MyHome team to work with a homeowner who was out of state. The unit had never been renovated and was extremely outdated. The next challenge was the pre-war apartment did not have an electric panel. The building itself is very plain and the homeowner wanted to walk into her space and feel a clean and contemporary aesthetic.

To remedy the problems, MyHome worked remotely with the client. The homeowner commented, “I felt they had my best interests at heart and really listened to my needs. I was out of town and counted on them to manage my co-op rules and regulations which they did with no problem.” To fix the issue of the missing electric panel, MyHome brought in a master electrician.

The newly renovated space has a lighter, custom feeling that is clean and inviting. This aesthetic was achieved in the kitchen space by using white shaker cabinetry with a white stacked backsplash tile. To create added storage, an 18” Bosch dishwasher was installed which allowed the space for 27” wide base cabinet with drawers to keep all smaller items conveniently in one cabinet. The upper cabinetry extends the length of the kitchen and to complete the look a panel under the cabinets was installed with recessed puck lighting.

“The kitchen design gave the space a custom finished look that satisfied our clients wish for a clean space,” explained Pitt. For the refrigerator, which is opposite the range, a cabinetry space was added above and finished off the side with a custom panel. There was 18” to play with to the right of the fridge so we added a tall 2-door pantry with electrical inside.

As for the bathroom it already featured a nice light feeling with a white base cabinet and white subway tile which was kept in the design. A darker grout was used to add a pop to the space and Caesarstone Raven shelves completed the shower niche. A Kohler medicine cabinet with LED light was installed and added to the minimalist feeling throughout the space which provides the perfect amount of task lighting. The client had a limited budget, so the design team creatively selected materials to have a few luxury items and still have a beautifully designed kitchen and bath on budget.

He previously worked as an industrial designer, designing kitchen products for companies such as KitchenAid and Cuisinart after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design.
