About:
Mable’s Smokehouse was opened in 2011 by husband and wife team, Meghan Love & Jeff Lutonsky. While both pursuing careers in the arts, they decided to change paths and pursue their dream of opening a restaurant. Jeff, having grown up in his mother’s restaurants and on his father’s cattle farm, always knew he wanted to cook BBQ and the Southern sides he grew up eating. Armed with his grandmother Mable’s recipes and a small inheritance from his mom’s passing, the two set out to open the Williamsburg BBQ joint.

They, as many do, underestimated the amount of money the process would cost and ended up building the place almost entirely on their own. They built the bar, every table and did all the work in the restaurant that could be managed without a license. With the help of friends and family they laid all the tiling, hung the drywall and did all the carpentry. During this time they learned they were pregnant and juggled the build-out, and the ultimate opening of Mable’s in January of 2011, with the impending birth of a baby boy named Henry.

Mable’s is as authentic as the two could muster in Brooklyn. Both Southerners (Meghan is from Kentucky, Jeff from Oklahoma), they wanted to recreate the honky-tonk feeling of roadside BBQs down South. They bought the mismatched chairs at yard sales and brought the railroad lanterns up from Texas along with anything else they could find along the way. Their aim is no-frills, no attitude, good old-fashioned BBQ made with fresh, high-quality ingredients in a comfortable, laid-back atmosphere. A slice of Southern Hospitality right in heart of Brooklyn. Having been open more than 4 years, Mable’s is going strong. With the addition of a baby girl named Georgia in 2014- the pair keep busy juggling family and their family business! The goal is always to put the customer first and let them know that just by walking in the door that they’ve made a difference. A difference to one family who against the odds realized a dream. They couldn’t be here without you.”
