“As three ladies from the North and California, we aren’t scared of messing around with Southern food – we believe that comfort food speaks to everyone.

We met as cooks at Diner, a local Brooklyn institution that’s been the parent restaurant of many Brooklyn favorites. We were inspired by a cook from Georgia who was one of the original owners of Pies, by Mexican and Californian cuisine, by New American cooking in the ’80s’s, and the Slow Food movement’s attention to ingredients. We cooked our way through every old fashioned Southern, American, or BBQ book we had. When we outgrew the tiny space at the back of the bar, it was on to build a bigger, better, more miraculous hole in the wall. We moved to the corner of S.4th st and Driggs, with a repurposed carriage house from the 1890s, which was a bigger space with lots of potential. Inside the carriage house we use for seating, we found antique toy trucks, one with labels for “Biscuit Mix”: it was meant to be!

We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, with catering and wholesale. We are proud to say that our employees that are the most important part of creating the unmatchable Pies’ experience. Our aim is simple: to be a friendly place to go grab a delicious, affordable bite to eat. Indebted to our loyal community who has supported us since we opened, we have exceeded our expectations of what this place could be.”
