Kevin Anglade loves to read. He loves to read so much that he decided to start an indie publishing brand based in Brooklyn, NY, with his business partner Alton Taylor entitled “Flowered Concrete”! I went to high school with this young gentleman, and he was always considered a scholar in my eyes. He is a genuine, hard working, creative being who puts all of his creative energy into acting and literature. With diligence and patience he hopes to see his company grow and expand vigorously.
Kevin is on a mission and he has faith in the literature business. He plans on stocking bookstores with the “Edutainment” notion to capture our youth by encouraging them to read more, as well as inspiring young aspiring authors to write more. He plans on satisfying every reader with books in numerous genres (Detective Fiction, Mystery, Drama, Action-Thriller, Memoir/Autobiographical, etc.) so that everyone has the opportunity to indulge in a good read at all times.
Below is my interview with Kevin and some information on how you can keep up with his success!
Wishing you the best,

*Explain to me how your company ties in with the borough of Brooklyn*
Flowered Concrete ties in with the borough of Brooklyn because as a growing independent literature based company, we are primarily focusing on Brooklyn as our most imperative source of readership. One thing that is quite interesting about the borough is that it has eclectic and diverse groups of readers who appreciate great novels and books for reading pleasure. One goal that we hope to achieve in 2014 is to stock our publications in chains of indie stores throughout the borough. Our work is already on shelves at a hip indie store called Book Thug Nation in Williamsburg and we hope to expand our numbers throughout the borough by next years end.
*Were you an avid reader as a child? Who or what inspired you to become an author?*
As a child I was most certainly an avid reader. My favorite series growing up as a kid was the Harry Potter series and I would say that the way in which the author J.K. Rowling wrote the series really inspired me to become an author and write anything that I felt was innovative and compelling.
*”Edutainment” is a very interesting word, and a clever combination of education and entertainment. How did you come up with that word and why is it the perfect word to describe your literature company?*
*Why the name “Flowered Concrete”?*
Flowered Concrete is a metaphor. Since our sole purpose of the company is to teach and inspire while entertaining our readers, we decided upon Flowered Concrete because we are growing and expanding the minds of our readers one customer at a time. Therefore, Flowered Concrete = Growing Literature One Rose at a Time. The “Rose” in a metaphorical sense represents the people.
*Have you ever had your work published? If so, what was the experience like?*
Yes, through Flowered Concrete I have self/indie published my first novel on January 28th by the name of “Tales of the 23RD PRECINCT” which is currently available for purchase on Amazon for $6.29. The experience was a challenging one because there is a lot of things that go on in compiling a book, however, it is invigorating when you see the blood, sweat and tears of your product actually come into fruition.
*What are your favorite genres of literature?*
Detective Fiction, Thriller, Fantasy, and Autobiographical.
*Where do you see your company in 5-10 years?*
In 5-10 years, I see Flowered Concrete expanding our readership and platform not only in Brooklyn or NYC in general but throughout the nation. Also, I hope to have two offices for Flowered Concrete in 10 years. One on the west and east coast respectfully.
*Where and how did you meet your business partner Alton Taylor? What does he bring to the company?*
*Do you have any advice for young aspiring authors?*
Of course. Follow your heart I would say. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t and work diligently on your craft. Try to get better with each and everyday and never be afraid to take risks.
