“By Summer 2014, a large-scale and cutting edge music venue, “The Wick,” will be occupying the ground floor of the former brewery off Bushwick Avenue. The venue proper will be just over 8,000 sq feet in total. The surrounding compound already houses several music related companies, including Main Drag Music’s Bushwick Supply equipment shop, the Sweat Shop rehearsal spaces, TomTom Magazine and Newtown radio station.
The venture is spearheaded by veterans of the New York music scene, three former music executives at one of New York’s defining music venues, the Knitting Factory. The company CEO and Managing Partner, Joshua Richholt, has managed restaurants and venues over the past ten years. He began a decade ago, managing small but very influential rock/indie club Buffalo Bar in London and then super-club Manumission, in Ibiza, Spain, which was the largest club in the world at the time, with an indoor capacity of 7000. Upon his return to London, he managed a medium-sized club, 400 capacity, called The Tramshed. Following his move to New York City just over five years ago Joshua held a management position at Knitting Factory, working at the Tribeca location until it closed its doors at the end of 2008.It was during his time at the Knitting Factory that Joshua met Shay Vishwadia who held a management position at The Knitting Factory from 2000, becoming general manager there in 2002. After eight years at ‘The Knit’ he moved to a larger venue, Highline Ballroom, again as the GM. A year after the move, the Knitting Factory offered him the position of Vice President of East Coast Operations, where he remained until beginning his involvement with The Wick. Shay has worked in production and stage management for the Newport Jazz and Folk Festival, the Saratoga Jazz Festival, and the Siren Festival in Coney Island.

THE WICK fills a much-needed niche in the burgeoning Bushwick music scene, anchoring itself in the heart of the fast-developing community that is 260 Meserole Street. “The building is sort of a Mecca for musicians,” says Richholt. “If they want to rehearse overnight or have a studio session, they can go down to the recording studio. A touring band can come through here and not need to go anywhere else.”

Talent booker Chris White says, “New York is home to such an eclectic mix of music. Our goal for THE WICK is to create a place that will give people the best experience possible for whatever type of band is performing on any given night. Expect some of the best musicians from around the world in the fields of rock, experimental, punk, hip hop, metal, electronic and more.”
